First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety on 19&20 November 09 in Moscow
Road traffic fatalities are forecast to increase over the next ten years from the current level of more than 1.3 million to more than 1.9 million by 2020.
In 19 & 20 November 09, the first ever Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety was held in Moscow. This was the first time that road safety is being considered and discussed at such a high level. The conference was organised with the support of the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility and FIA Foundation.
This first Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety had the opportunity to set a new direction for global road safety and to make a real commitment to take serious action.
PRI attended this conference, during which it has put forward the following:

The objectives of the Ministerial Conference were to:
- Draw attention to the need for action to address the large and growing global impact of road traffic crashes, in particular in low and middle income countries.
- Review progress on implementation of the World report on road traffic injury prevention and the UN General Assembly resolutions.
- Provide a high-level global multisectoral policy platform to share information and good practices on road safety.
- Propose a number of actions for the future, including a discussion of the resources needed to fulfill these actions.
